-

I-645 is fiscally irresponsible, as it slashes 13 billion in funding for education and healthcare, increases taxes on most Washington working families, and jeopardizes tax cuts for small businesses.
I-645 could mean higher taxes for thousands of small businesses, force families to pay sales tax on basic household items like diapers and medication, increase costs for healthcare, and raise taxes on 460,000 Washington families – just so those who make over a million dollars in a year get a tax break.
-
Making Washington’s mega-millionaires, those who make more than 1,000,000 a year, pay a $0.09.9 for every dollar after the first million is unconstitutional.
Article VII, Section 1 of the Washington Constitution requires that all taxes be uniform on the same classes of property. The same section defines "property" in the broadest terms possible to "mean and include everything, whether tangible or intangible." Article VII, Section 2, establishes the upper limit on such tax—limiting any property tax to no more than 1% of the value of the property.

This measure weakens common sense protections for students experiencing abuse, neglect, or unsafe home environments by requiring schools to release sensitive counseling and social work records to parents accused of or under criminal investigation for abuse. It also removes parental rights to immediate school notification if their child is the victim of a crime.
-
This measure amends RCW 28A.605.005 to change existing state laws governing the rights of parents and guardians of public school children in Washington. It will not force schools to knowingly out LBGTQ+ students to unsupportive families and will not put child abuse victims in further danger of harm. It will not significantly change parents’ rights to notification if a child is the victim of a crime at school.

This initiative is the nation’s most extreme measure of its kind, as it requires unnecessary medical exams for girls participating in school sports, and raises privacy concerns. It bans the use of birth certificates and instead subjects girls to unnecessary and invasive sex verification exams of their reproductive anatomy, DNA, or hormones.
-
This measure is necessary to repeal the Washington Interscholastic Athletic Association’s existing policy, in place since 2007, regarding trans students in K-12 sports. This measure will prevent an estimated 5 - 10 trans girls in Washington from joining school teams.
